*How Do I Walk In The Spirit?* (III)

_Key Bible Text:_
*God did not call us to live in immorality, but in holiness. So then, whoever rejects this teaching is not rejecting a human being, but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.* (1 Thessalonians 4:7-8 (GNB))

_Bible Insight:_
Another important step to how to walk in the Spirit, is to *develop a keen sensitivity to sin* When you study 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8, you will appreciate this step a lot better. Scripture teaches that God has called us to holiness. Since the Holy Spirit will never lead you in the ways of uncleanness, whenever you become aware that you have begun thinking or practicing sin, you can be sure it was your _flesh_ nature, not your _Spirit_ nature, that led or controlled you. 

As you walk in the Spirit, you will become increasingly sensitive to sin and will successfully avoid it more and more. If, however, you ignore that sensitivity to sin you will, of course, be walking in the flesh instead of in the Spirit. You should immediately repent, confess, and be restored to walking in the Spirit. If you reject the Spirit's conviction about your sin, you will gradually sear your conscience and become insensitive to sin, making it easier to walk in the control of the flesh instead of walking in the Spirit. 

It is not uncommon to hear of a dedicated Christian who commits some sin that renders him useless in the hands of God. The question invariably arises, "How could he do such a thing?" Very simply -- by gradually skipping over the reading of the Word, then by permitting sins to creep into his mind (usually lust, greed, selfishness, revenge, or self-pity). He grieves the Spirit, hardens his heart, dulls his conscience, and sets himself up for the big temptation to which he succumbs. Finally, he is discovered and becomes a "vessel of dishonor".

*Again, we recommend frequent heart checks, quick judgment of our sins, and daily reading of the Word*
