*STARTING THE YEAR WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT* (3)

_Key Bible Text:_
*What I say is this: let the Spirit direct your lives, and you will not satisfy the desires of the human nature.* (Galatians 5:16 (GNB))

_Bible Insight:_
We are so dependent on the Holy Spirit that we can't even pray properly without Him. For that reason, I hope you see how important it is for you to be acquainted with the Holy Spirit in your life, and with what He will do for you and your family. By this time in your Christian life, I hope you are familiar with the concept that "every good gift and every perfect gift is from above" (James 1:17). The person of the Godhead that provides that "complete" gift (which is what the word _perfect_ means) is the Holy Spirit. 

You and I are not "complete" in the plan of God for our lives until we are "filled with the Holy Spirit". Interestingly enough, as we have seen, that is not optional for the Christian but is the command of God (Ephesians 5:18; Galatians 5:16). No Christian can be controlled by his or her self life and the Holy Spirit at the same time. One will predominate. Either he acts according to his old selfish nature, or he will do deeds that are dictated by the Spirit. And it is easy to tell the difference. 

If it is self that is in control, the person will be filled with selfishness, anger, fear, or other "works of the flesh". If the Holy Spirit controls him or her, this person will display the nine fruit of the Spirit. We will take a closer look at the fruits of the Spirit in the course of this series on the Holy Spirit.

*Nothing is more practical on a day-to-day basis than the control of our lives by God's Holy Spirit*

*DAILY DEW 24TH/DECEMBER/2021* *TRUSTING AGAINST ALL ODDS* _Key Bible Text:_ *"Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him."* (Job 13:15 (KJV))  _Bible Insight:_ It's an uphill task trying to understand God's plan, especially when we can't make logical sense of what we see happening to and around us. But we aren't instructed to understand His plans, but to TRUST HIM and be secure in the knowledge that He's working everything to ultimately turn out for our good.  God won't mismanage your life. Trust Him with it and be willing and quick to obey His instructions even when they don't fit into your parameter of what's logical.
