*What to Expect When Filled With The Spirit* (II)

_Key Bible Text:_
*For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.* (Romans 8:6 (KJV))

_Bible Insight:_
When a natural human being is indwelt by a supernatural power like the Holy Spirit, everyone expects that person to be different. What will be different? He or she doesn't get better-looking or smarter or suddenly acquire a new skill such as playing the piano or painting. The difference is in the person's emotions.

The Holy Spirit provides us with emotional control, and that assures us of having control over our out-of-control tendencies. The change in the life of believers that new Christians often talk about is the work of the Holy Spirit on their emotions. By contrast, when you see a Christian out of emotional control, you know that person is not walking in the Spirit as the Bible commands us.

Just as I wrote those lines, Bev hung up the phone to tell me a mutual friend's daughter is being divorced by her husband -- "for another woman". Obviously, that couple is not walking in the Spirit, and hasn't been for some time. When they were "Spirit-filled Christians" they were much happiest people but they have gone their own selfish ways and concluded they no longer loved each other. Yet the first fruit of the Spirit is love. Had they walked in the Spirit as the Bible commands us, they would not be going through a heart-wrenching divorce that also involves two children.

MEDITATION:
*Disobeying the Spirit always carries a consequence. In most cases, it is unnecessary unhappiness*
