Anger, Temperament & Marriages (IV)

*Anger, Temperament & Marriages* (IV)

_Key Bible Text:_
*Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:* (Ephesians 4:31 (KJV))

_Bible Insight:_
Admittedly, repressed hostility can cause bleeding ulcers and other 50 diseases Dr. McMillen mentions in his book. But there is a better remedy: Cure it! Consider the following steps carefully, for they have been tested and many individuals have verified their effectiveness. You will find these steps to victory over anger similar to those for overcoming the other emotional problems, such as fear, hostility, bitterness etc.

1. _Face anger as a sin (Ephesians 4:30-32):_ No sin, habit, or weakness can be overcome unless the individual is willing to face it squarely as wrong. In the case of anger, confronting it as a sin repugnant to God is the first step toward cure. If you have any question about anger being wrong, pursue a Bible study on anger. You will find over 25 verses that denounce it, and many illustrations from Cain to Peter that condemn it (none more pathetic than that of Moses). Such a study will help you avoid the natural inclination to justify or excuse your anger. Such action is self-destructive, for it nullifies the possibility of cute. I have never seen a person overcome anger unless he readily admitted it as sin.

2. _Confess your anger as sin (1 John 1:9):_ Not only do you need God's forgiveness for your anger every time it occurs, but you need to verbalize the fact that it is wrong and you wish to be rid of it. God's ear is always attuned to the cry of the sinner, the psalmist tells us and He is quick to forgive.

We have four other steps which we shall consider subsequently. It is however, important that we immediately practise these two steps where we find that anger is a problem we confront even if occasionally.

MEDITATION:
*Uncured anger always limits a person's potential. To fulfill your ultimate destiny and to enjoy marriage and family life to the ultimate, you must gain victory over anger. Anger grieves the Holy Spirit.
