*The Perfection Question*
_Key Bible Text:_
*Therefore, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh so that you may lead my people, the Israelites, out of Egyptian Moses asked God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and that I should bring the Israelites out of Egypt?*
(Exodus 3:10-11)
_Bible Insight:_
Our scripture reference today is a popular one, it is about Moses’ encounter with the burning bush and God commissioning him for the assignment that would see him lead Israel out of the Egyptian bondage they were in at the time.
Notice that God already knew that Moses was a stammerer (Exodus 4:10-12), he knew that Moses was somewhat afraid, a little shy and was generally lacking in motivation (Exodus 4:13-17) but all of these did not stop him from giving the Israelite rescue mission to Moses.
And what was the outcome? Moses did great even though there were some pitfalls here and there but he was great at his assignment. There was even a point where he had to practically plead with God not to destroy the children of Israel even though God had made him a seemingly irresistible offer to grow another nation out of him.
Most of us are like Moses. We have heavy doubts and reasons why the dream that God has placed within our hearts cannot be achieved in and through us. In fact, we have a catalogue of all the reasons why the business God is asking us to do will fail woefully. We even think that God cannot possibly want to use us given the kind of past we have.
The purpose of this devotional today is to let you know and probably remind those of us who already know that you do not need to be perfect for God to use you to do something great on the earth.
Moses had killed an Egyptian and was still the one who lead the children of Israel out of Egypt with great signs and wonders. David was an adulterer and killer but the Messiah came from his lineage, Peter could not even stay awake for one hour to pray with the Jesus he professed to love so much, yet he was the head of the early church and performed several miracles. Do we see the trend?
The key point is that we mustn’t have it all together for God to be able to use us. In God’s eyes, perfection is not required for your assignment but humility and being teachable are key ingredients.
MEDITATION:
*God sees all of my doubts, errors and weaknesses but he is still interested in using me.*
