IDOLATORY IN DISGUISE

*IDOLATORY IN DISGUISE*

_Key Bible Text:_
*“When Aaron took the gold, melted it down, and molded it into the shape of a calf. When the people saw it, they exclaimed, “O Israel, these are the gods who brought you out of the land of Egypt!”* (Exodus 24:4)

_Bible Insight:_
The Lord commanded the Israelites not to have any other gods apart from him. But when they couldn’t see Moses, they decided to make a new god for themselves and they took something from themselves to make a god because they felt Yahweh was too slow.

While many have seen this as a reason to prohibit the use of jewelries, something struck me there, God walked with them with those their gold jewelries in their possession from Egypt; it only became an issue when they made a calf out of it. How do I know this, we see these same items being used as offering to God in Numbers 31: 50.

The point is anything that takes the place of God in your life is an idol and God cannot walk with you and idols; He is jealous God. Anything that you give attention, more priority than God in your life becomes an idol. While many of us are aware of things like money, fashion, academics, phone, jewelries that can easily become idols, have we though out things like wisdom, intelligence, modesty, righteous actions becoming idols? It’s almost unheard of but it exists.

The Bible says that you are justified by faith in Jesus Christ, so the moment you begin to think of your modesty, righteous acts, goodness and intelligence as the reason for your right standing with God, then that there is an idol and must be cast down. Be careful to see God as your number one source.

MEDITATION:
*Yet for us there is [only] one God, the Father, Who is the Source of all things and for whom we [have life], and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through and by Whom are all things and through and by Whom we [ourselves exist]*
