*THE POWER OF BOOKS* (II)
_Key Bible Text:_
*And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written.* (Luke 4:16-17)
_Bible Insight:_
Let's look at what Jesus said about reading books. You would be shocked to realise that Jesus was a great reader. I believe he was one of the most well read leaders of his time. You may think Jesus did not read but you are wrong. Something dramatic happened when Jesus was going to start his ministry. Jesus came to Nazareth and stood up to read. This is not the first time he was reading. He was used to reading. It was such that anytime there was a need to read, they called him to read. It was like they said, "That bookworm guy has come, give him the scripture to read." On this particular occasion, he found a place in the scripture where something was written concerning him and that was the day his public ministry would begin.
There are a lot of people today who say they are looking for their purpose in life. Why not do what Jesus did? Read!!! Maybe the reason why you are yet to discover your purpose is because you are not yet reading.
There was a particular day that some guys came to meet Jesus. They asked a big question in Matthew 19:3, *"The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?"* When I saw that question, I was like aaaaahhhhhhhh. They are about to get him. It was a really tough question. I was wondering how Jesus would answer. Do you know what Jesus said?
Let me show you. In Matthew 19:4, "And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female." Jesus was saying in other words that the reason why you are asking this question is that you have not read. If you have read, you should have known.
When you see people misbehaving and going the wrong way, it might be because they have not read. The truth is that when you see a man slapping his wife or cheating on his wife and the wife making life hell for her husband, Jesus said the fundamental problem is that they have not read. Have you not read?
