THE POWER OF BOOKS

*THE POWER OF BOOKS*

_Key Bible Text:_
*The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments.* (2 Timothy 4:13)

_Bible Insight:_
One fascinating bible character that I admire is Apostle Paul. I have always wondered how this man was able to attain the great height he got to. Now I know you will say it was the grace of God. And I totally agree. But one thing that I have also come to discover is that the grace of God comes upon a man and make the man to begin to do certain things rightly. So as much as Paul was great by the grace of God, I want to know the specific life transforming principles he put to use. Then I discovered something interesting in the scripture -- our text today (2 Timothy 4:13)

This scripture was actually part of a letter sent to a young man by the name of Timothy. Paul was giving him the instruction to come with certain things. Three things to be precise: 1. Cloke which is clothes for cold weather; 2. Books and 3. Parchment, another form of books. Now imagine this scenario: you travel out of the country and then you are on Missions in say Benin Republic. Then one of your brothers is coming to Benin from Nigeria. What would you ask him to bring? I would probably ask him to come with yam flour because I love amala, or ask him to come with garri because the garri in Benin Republic is not as sharp as the one we have in Nigeria. But guess what Paul asked for? Books.

That man was a great reader. No wonder he went far in life. When he was asking for books and more books, people felt his own is too much. But guess what? He singlehandedly wrote almost 2/3 of the entire New Testament. So it is good for you to be graced by God but it is important to be an ardent reader. If you don't read, you cannot go far in life. The reason why many ministers do not go far in ministry is because they refuse to improve on what God has told them through reading.

MEDITATION:
*Where am I driving at? We must read books because in books lies the secret of the future.*
