*NUMBERS 32 LESSONS: HAVE A BACK UP PLAN*
_Key Bible Text:_
*"So Moses gave these commands to Eleazar, Joshua, and the other leaders of Israel: 'If the men of Gad and Reuben cross the Jordan ready for battle at the LORD's command and if with their help you are able to conquer the land, then give them the land of Gilead as their property'."* (Numbers 32:28-29 (GNB))
*_Bible Insight:_*
From human perspective, Jesus was God's back up plan for Adam. From God's perspective, Jesus was already the main plan from the foundation of the earth. Adam was a decoy. Funny isn't it. But let's come back to the human perspective. Jesus was God's back up plan in the event of man's failure. It is important to have a back up plan, especially when you are dealing with other humans.
Moses understood that he couldn't just rely on the promise of the children of Gad and Reuben. As much as he wanted to trust them, he needed to have a back up plan. He also understood that his time was short, so he needed to hand over properly to Joshua. Hence he instructed Joshua and the rest of the leaders to ensure that the Children of Gad and Reuben keep their end of the bargain. Otherwise, he told the leaders not to allow them have the portion of land they wanted desperately.
Have a back up plan especially when what you are aiming for involves the input of others. "What happens if there is power outage, would the things you put inside the fridge not get soured?" "What if my debtor doesn't pay back when he promised to?" And such other questions. Having back up plans can sometimes be the only way out of situations that are beyond our control. We won't be taken unaware. We would be prepared.
MEDITATION:
*"If your plan isn't working, adjust your plan. Never give up."* ~ Matt Martin
