The Way of The Cross (The End)

*THE WAY OF THE CROSS* (The End)

_Key Bible Text:_
*And Hhe said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up His cross daily, and follow Me.* (Luke 9:23 (KJV))

_Bible Insight:_

*What did Jesus mean when He said we have to carry a cross? I've heard people talk about a problem they have and say it's a cross they have to bear, but is this what Jesus meant?*

In closing this series, it is important that we return to the question that prompted our reflections.

If we have not learned anything from the series so far, there is one thing that must not escape us-- the cross deals a death blow to the life of sin. The flesh and being "normal" is crucified by the cross. In fact, as Jesus calls us to carry the cross daily, it is because we must daily crucify the flesh and all its "normal" ways of doing things.

This is exactly what 1 Peter 4:1-2 is talking about. Christ suffered in the flesh when he crucified the flesh on the cross. He calls us to live the crucified life by dethroning the rule of the flesh. The cross bearing believer does not approach life from the normal self glorifying ways of doing things.

Haven said that, so what happens when any problem comes to a believer? How does s/he handle the challenge? He must treat that challenge in a manner that complies with the new life of Christ. If he doesn't have food or money for instance, he is not tempted to defraud others or lie or cut corners just to get some money or food. If she is waiting for a spouse, that is over due, she doesn't lower her standards just to "catch" the spouse. And the list goes on.

So yes, a problem may or may not be the cross but we must always bear the cross in the way we deal with all and any of life's challenges. *So the question is not whether a problem is the cross, the question is whether we recognize the cross in every challenge of life*

May we daily live in the way of the cross. Amen.

*MEDITATION*
*Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.* (1 Peter 4:1-2 (KJV))
